In 2017, in a laboratory at the Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), Mario Michan, Ph.D. in physics from CERN, invents a purification process to convert toxic pollutants in exhaust gases into non-hazardous components. Indeed, the harmful gases emitted by ship engines are irradiated with electrons in a preconditioned environment to be transformed into non-harmful byproducts. Well aware of the potential industrial application of his discoveries, he contacted a consultant specialising in maritime transport in Gothenburg, and together they created Daphne Technology.
In mid-2019, the Innovation Park of EPFL and Daphne Technology Founder Dr Mario Michan explained the advantages of being headquartered at EPFL and the company’s main focus.
Today, Daphne Technology is the only company providing the industry with market-ready agnostic regulatory solutions that address the range of pollutants that shipping must eradicate now, and those that are anticipated will come over time.
